A Marvellous Musical Adventure

From Jane Pincott, Head of Music:

Yesterday we had a second visit from Children’s Musical Adventures. We worked with Patrick and Owen who are both wonderful professional musicians. Patrick is the Timpanist for the Welsh National Opera and Head of Percussion at the Royal Welsh Academy of Music and Owen is an well respected percussion soloist – in fact he was a judge for the BBC Young Musician of the Year. They posted this message on their Facebook page which explains the overview of their work with your boys today.

childrensmusicaladventures.pngEach class had a session, improvising sounds that matched the animals they chose to explore. The sounds were remarkable and the boys were excited and skilled in equal measure.  I must say a huge thank you to Friends of Squirrels who funded this special musical treat. Their generosity is much appreciated.

Centenary Ball – Thank You

Dear parents

We would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who came to the FoS Centenary Ball.  Exact numbers are being finalised, but we are very excited to announce that the evening raised a whopping £44,000 PROFIT!!

As you know, 30% (£13,200) will be donated to the cardiac teams at Great Ormond Street Hospital, with the remaining 70% (£30,800) directly reinvested into the school, to enhance all of our boys’ experience here at Wimbledon Common Prep.  We are truly humbled and blessed to have such supportive parents, so thank you again for all of your help and support.

On a personal note, I would like to thank my team and all the staff who helped and supported me throughout the planning stages!  Without all their support and help, it would have been a very different event!

Wishing you all the very best.  Have a great week!

Many thanks

Christmas Fair

Christmas Fair

On Saturday 24th November, we enjoyed FoS’s second big event this term, the Christmas Fair.  It raised more than £4,000 which will be put to good use enhancing the boys’ education.  We will be sharing 10% of profits with our charity of the year, Place2BE, a children’s mental health charity working within schools. A huge thank you to all those parents, grandparents and friends behind it all; without your generous donations of gifts, cakes, bottles and most of all time and energy this fun event could never happen – you are wonderful!

On Saturday 9th March 2019, Friends of Squirrels will be hosting our Centenary Ball at the Bank of England Sports Centre, Roehampton.  We are excited to announce that the tickets for the Ball will go on sale on Monday 10th December at 10am for £110 per person.

Ticket applications

  • Tickets will be sold on a first come first served basis.  There are a limited amount of tables available, so please ensure you email as close to 10am onwards as possible, to not miss out!  (At the previous Ball, tickets sold out within hours!)
  • Ticket applications will be accepted for complete tables of 10 only.  Please nominate a table host to submit the application, providing a list of all the guests’ names in order to avoid duplicate applications.  Only one table per host, so no block booking please.
  • Please email koyumora@hotmail.com (not before 10am, as these applications will be discounted), with the reference: CENTENARY SPRING BALL 2019 TICKETS.  No applications accepted before the sale date and time.
  • Successful applicants will be contacted directly, and will then be required to submit one cheque per table, made payable to “Friends of Squirrels”, for the total amount of £1100 (10 tickets at £110 each), via the school office, by Thursday 13th December 2018.  Payments not received by this date will result in your table being released.

As FOS only organise a ball once every three years, and the fact that this particular Ball is a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to celebrate our school’s 100th Birthday, be sure not to miss out on what is sure to be another unforgettable evening!

Should you need any help with table planning, or have numbers slightly over or under, please contact Yuzana (Yuzi) Chen on the email above.

We do hope that we can count on your support for what promises to be a truly wonderful evening and a great fundraising opportunity both for the school and for our nominated charity, the cardiac wing of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Auction Prizes

We currently have some amazing auction prizes we can’t wait to share with everyone!  In the meantime, as with previously successful Balls, we look for kind and generous parents and local businesses who can support our fundraising event, by offering any ‘big-ticket’ items.  If you or anyone you know can kindly donate towards our auction to help raise money to our great cause, please do get in touch with any of the Ball Committee members / FOS (who can direct you to one of us)!  For some ideas of what we are looking for:

Can you or your business donate items or an experience?

– Do you have access to a holiday home, either abroad or in the UK?

– Do you have sporting tickets or access to a box (or via your company?)

– Dinner for 2, 4, 6 or more?

– Sought after theatre-tickets?

Do you have a famous family member or friend that you could ask?

– Are they in the entertainment industry? A backstage tour, TV/film/music studio tour or ticket to a live event would be an amazing prize.

– Are they a writer, poet or artist? Perhaps they could offer a one-to-one experience?

– Are they a sports personality? Could they offer a game of tennis, a round of golf or hospitality tickets?

Please do get in touch if you think you can help?  Any questions in the meantime, do feel free to ask us!

With kind regards,

Yuzana Chen,

Chair, Friends of Squirrels Ball Committee
